It’s a great tool, but it can get a little overwhelming when you first set out to study for the exams.
One of the most important things I’ve learned about studying for USMLE-Rx is to focus on what I really need to learn and not just study “everything.”
This is an idea I’ve borrowed from a pretty successful blog – Curate Your Craft. (Curate your craft is the title of the blog.)
Below is a quick excerpt from the blog post that explains the concept better than I ever could:
Instead of studying everything that you need to know to pass the USMLE, you should focus your study on a few key areas. These are the chapters/sections that you need to study to pass the exam, and they are called the Mastery Path.
I’ve included the chapters that I think are the most important to study on USMLE-Rx. A good place to start would be the 7 clinical chapters, because they provide you with all the information that you need for the physical exam.
The most important aspect of studying is to build mastery of the concepts. The more you understand each topic, the more you can move on to the next. If you’re still learning a concept, that’s a great time to review it!
Below is a free sample from one of my top books. I know that I have answered every question on this exam so I can demonstrate how I study and tackle the concepts.
(Based on the content of this book, USMLE-Rx Step 1 was a pretty easy exam for me.)
